Wrestling Falls to No. 22 Harvard, Oregon

Cardinal now stands at 2-3 on the season.

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford University fell to both Oregon and No. 22 Harvard in collegiate wrestling action on Wednesday night at Burnham Pavilion. The Cardinal (2-3 overall, 1-2 in the Pac-10) lost to the Ducks (3-0, 2-0) 28-9, and the 22nd-ranked Crimson (3-2) 22-12. Oregon won eight of the 10 matches in the opener, including two by major decision and one by technical fall. The Ducks won each of the first four matches to take a commanding 15-0 lead, including a technical fall victory by Chael Sonnen (West Linn, OR/BYU) at 197 pounds and a major decision by Kevin Keeney (Canby, OR/Canby Union HS) at 285 pounds.

Stanford's Tim Kendall (Colorado Springs, CO/Palmer HS) won at 184 pounds to give the hosts the early lead over the Crimson, but Harvard won five of the next six matches to take a 19-6 lead. The Crimson's Dustin DeNunzio (Palm Harbor, FL/Clearwater Central Cath.), who is ranked eighth in the nation at 141 pounds, led the charge with a pin in just 1:08.

For Stanford, both 133-pounder Zach Zimmerer (Billings, MT/Billings Central HS) and 174-pounder Shane Cross (Douglas, WY/Douglas HS) went 2-0 on the night. Zimmerer is currently ranked 13th in the country at 133 pounds.

Stanford returns to action this Saturday night when UC-Davis visits Burnham Pavilion at 7:00 p.m. The Cardinal will host Division II powerhouse Kutztown next Tuesday (1/12), also at 7:00 p.m.
