Honolulu, Hawaii - The Stanford coed Sailing Team got off to an amazingstart at today's first day of competition for this year's doublehanded NorthAmerican CHampionship. The three-day regatta began today in the shiftyseabreeze conditions that the Cardinal thrives in; six races were held inboth A and B Divisions.
A Division Duo of Dave Phillips '04 and Crew Kara Sweeney '03 earned astring of top 10 finishes, including a first place in the competitive fleetof 18 boats.
The B Division duo of Ted Conrads '03 and Amy Halvorsen '05 had anequally good day, also claiming a first place in one race.
Mid-afternoon scores had the Stanford Team in 3rd place overall, behindFirst place Hawaii and second place Old Dominion University. A tough set forboth divisions at the close of the day dropped the Stanford Team to 7th.With three quarters of the regatta to go, the Cardinal sailors are confidentthat they can grind back to a top-five position.
