INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Simone Manuel set a world record in the 400 medley relay and an American record in the 100 free as she helped Team USA to a 153-109 victory over the European All-Stars at the 2015 Duel in the Pool.
Lia Neal and Stanford Associate Head Coach Tracy Duchac also represented Team USA at the iconic Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in downtown Indianapolis.
Manuel and Neal finished 1-2 in the 100 free and earned eight points for the Americans in the event. Manuel topped Natalie Coughlin's five-year-old American record by nearly two-tenths of a second when she touched the wall at 51.69. Neal was not far behind and finished as the runner-up to the Manuel's record-setting finish with a time of 52.08.
Less than an hour later, Manuel was part of a world record as the anchor in the 400 medley relay. The Sugar Land, Texas, native had the fastest leg of the relay (51.23) and stopped the clock at 3:45.20 for the Americans. That topped the USA's record time from 2011 by 26-hundreths of a second.
Neal also earned a point for the U.S. in the 50 free with a third-place finish of 23.95.
The U.S. remains undefeated (7-0) in the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, held every other year since the 2003 inception.
The Cardinal will be represented in Indianapolis next week as well with the USA Diving Winter National Championships, December 15-20.
