STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Akash Modi has been named a finalist for the 2017 Nissen-Emery Award, given annually to the top senior gymnast in the NCAA. Considered the Heisman Trophy of collegiate gymnastics, the award will be presented at the 2017 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championship Banquet in West Point, N.Y. in April.
One of the most decorated gymnasts in Stanford history, Modi is a 12-time All-American in the all-around (3), parallel bars (3), floor (2), high bar (2) and pommel horse (2). In addition, Modi has claimed NCAA titles in the all-around, high bar and parallel bars. The senior has claimed the honor of being named the MPSF Gymnast of the Year for three consecutive years – the first gymnast to do so since Olympic medalist Jonathan Horton.
Modi is one of just three Stanford gymnasts to win three or more individual NCAA titles and was named a 2016 Olympic Alternate for the Rio Games. For a complete list of Modi's accolades, please click here.

In addition, the Cardinal has claimed 19 finalists for the award since its inception in 1966.
Stanford will return to action next weekend when it sets to host Cal in its final regular season meet on Saturday, April 1. Start time is 4 p.m. PT in Burnham Pavilion.
