WASHINGTON, D.C. – Three Stanford gymnasts combined for three individual event victories but it was not quite enough to cover a rough day Sunday at the George Washington Quad Meet.
Â
No. 18 George Washington finished first with a 196.500 and was followed by NC State (194.575) and Yale (194.575). Stanford finished fourth with a 193.275.
Â
Elizabeth Price finished first on bars with a 9.925.
Ashley Tai and
Nicolette McNair tied for the individual victory on beam with scores of 9.875.
Â
Stanford got off to a slow start on floor due to a fall early in the lineup. However, the Cardinal rallied to salvage a 48.525.
Â
Elizabeth Price paced the team with a 9.850 and was followed by
Rachel Daum (9.775) and
Hailee Hoffman (9.700). Â
Â
The Cardinal faced a similar situation on bars with an early fall. Stanford nearly covered with each of its next three gymnasts hitting their routines but a miss in the anchor spot forced the Cardinal to count a fall.
Â
Price again led Stanford with a 9.850, and was followed by
Danielle McNair and
Ashley Tai with scores 9.725.
Â
McNair got Stanford going on bars with a 9.825 on bars but the Cardinal had its momentum halted by a fall in the second spot. Stanford only had five gymnasts in its bars lineups which forced the Cardinal to count the missed routine.
Â
The Cardinal rebounded with its next three gymnasts hitting their routines. Price capped the event with a meet-best 9.925.
Â
Tai and McNair helped Stanford finish strong on beam with a pair of 9.875s.
Rachel Daum (9.775) and
Taryn Fitzgerald also contributed quality performances in the event.
Â
Stanford will look to get back on track next Saturday when it plays host to the Pac-12 Championships in Maples Pavilion. The first session will start at 1 p.m. (PT) and the second will begin at 6 p.m.
