Stanford Signs Three

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford signed three to national letters of intent this week, strengthening a track and field recruiting class that numbers 19.

The newest signees are sprinter Andrew Franco (Rocklin/Whitney HS), thrower Max McKhann (Dana Point/Dana Hills HS), and horizontal jumper Allyson Weiss (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS).

They join 16 who signed in November:

Previous men's signees were Meika Beaudoin-Rousseau (San Jose/Bellarmine College Prep), Keyshawn King (Liberty, S.C./Liberty HS), Clayton Mendez (Chicago/Whitney Young HS), Andy Monroe (Central Point, Ore./Crater HS), Charlie Perry (Superior, Colo./Monarch HS), Joshua Schumacher (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS), Sal Spina (Alhambra/St. John Bosco HS), and Miles Zoltak (Camarillo/Thousand Oaks HS).

Previous women's signees were Caitlin Collier (Jacksonville, Fla./The Bolles School), Jordan Fong (Kent, Wash./Kentlake HS), Kennedy Gamble (Houston/The Kinkaid School), Mary Gillett (Longmont, Colo./Niwot HS), Allie Jones (Santa Barbara/San Marcos HS), Lindsey Payne (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West HS), Rebecca Story (Knoxville, Tenn./Christian Academy of Knoxville), and Alex Stout (Santa Cruz/Pacific Collegiate School).

Andrew Franco:
Franco, out of Whitney High in Rocklin, was a two-event finalist at the 2017 California state meet. In the 200 and 400, Franco placed sixth and seventh, respectively. Franco set personal records in both at the state prelims, running the 200 in 21.51 and the 400 in 47.82. At the 2017 Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Meet, Franco was second in the 200 and third in the 400, earning passage to State in each.

Max McKhann:
McKhann, out of Dana Hills High in Dana Point, is a versatile thrower whose specialty is the hammer. In January, at the Cerritos Throw Far competition in Norwalk, McKhann was second at 204-7 (62.36 meters) – the second-longest toss in the country this year. That was a 15-foot improvement over his best from 2017 of 189-7 (57.78m), which made him the No. 8 thrower in his class in the nation. Last week, McKhann won the Orange County Championships in the discus, with lifetime best of 179-9 (54.78m). McKhann was third at the California state hammer championships last year and third in CIF-Southern Section Division I in the discus. McKhann intends to major in economics.

Allyson Weiss:
Weiss, out of East Ridge High in Woodbury, Minneosta, is a two-time state 2A champion in the triple jump, capturing her second consecutive title last spring at 40-1 ¼ (12.22m). Weiss, a seven-time Suburban East Conference champion, has bests of 40-3 (12.26m) in the triple jump and 18-6 ½ (5.64m) in the long jump. Weiss has trained with the National Scholastic Athletic Foundation's Project Triple Jump since 2013. A fine overall athlete, Weiss also has competed in the state championships in swimming and played high school volleyball. She is interested in majoring in biomechanical engineering. Her older sister, Jordan, has competed for the U.S. national team in synchronized figure skating.

Stanford is set to host the Pac-12 Track and Field Championships on May 5-6 and May 12-13 on Cobb Track and Angell Field.
