IRVINE, Calif. -- Freshman NiJaree Canady turned in an historic performance on Sunday, throwing a no-hitter and striking out 10 to lead the No. 17 Stanford Cardinal over the Liberty Lady Flames 8-0.
Canady (2-0) added her second win of the season to her outstanding performance. The right-hander struck out 10 and walked three for Stanford (3-2) on her way to the record books.
At the plate, the Cardinal were led by junior Aly Kaneshiro, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Senior Kaitlyn Lim put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-2 with a triple and a walk. Senior Emily Young also chipped in for Stanford, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Canady started things off defensively for Stanford, striking out all three batters in the bottom of the first. The Cardinal took the lead for good in the second, scoring twice, with one run coming across on senior Emily Schultz's single.
The Cardinal then tacked on runs in the third and fifth innings, with their biggest output coming in the third when they scored five times. The big hit in that inning was a two-run home run off the bat of Kaneshiro.
