STANFORD, Calif. – Elia Rubin and Ipar Kurt combined for 26 kills to lead No. 7 Stanford in a 25-8, 25-16, 25-12 win over Virginia Tech, Friday, in Maples Pavilion.
The Cardinal (21-4, 13-3 ACC) hit a season-high .553 as a team, while holding the Hokies (7-19, 1-15 ACC) to a .167 clip. Stanford registered 46 kills, 39 digs, seven aces and 6.0 blocks in its first-ever meeting against Virginia Tech.
Rubin and Kurt each had 13 kills to lead all players. Kurt hit .650 and had three digs, two aces and a block. Rubin’s kills came on a .571 attack percentage as the junior also collected eight digs, an assist and a block.
Stanford, which sided out at 89 percent for the match, registered its eighth straight sweep at Maples and is now 11-0 at home this season.
Setter Kami Miner posted 40 assists, five digs, two kills, an ace and a block. Libero Elena Oglivie tied for the match-high with eight digs, three assists and an ace.
Middle blocker Sami Francis turned in a .692 attack percentage with nine kills on 13 errorless swings and a match-best six blocks. The senior is hitting .422 in ACC play and averaging 1.68 blocks per set in conference matches.
Opposite Jordyn Harvey recorded six kills, five digs, two aces and two blocks. Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew chipped in with three kills on .600 hitting.
Defensive specialist Anna Pringle tallied three digs for the Cardinal. Sophomore Koko Kirsch had three digs and an ace off the bench, while freshman Malyssa Cawa added four digs and two assists.
Virginia Tech was led by Belle Patrick’s 10 kills and four digs, while Hailey Pearce finished with eight kills on .353 hitting, three digs and an ace.
Stanford hits the road next week, traveling to Duke on Friday and North Carolina on Sunday to continue ACC play.
