RIO de JANEIRO – Elle Logan added to her collection of Olympic gold medals on Saturday.
The 2011 Stanford graduate rowed in the seven seat for the United States women's Eight that raced down the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas racecourse in 6:01.49 in the women's eight A Final. The United States captured gold, defeating silver medalist Great Britain (6:03.98) and bronze medalist Romania (6:04.10).

It's the third straight Olympic gold for the United States women's eight, who have not lost a world championship or Olympic race since 2006. Logan became the first female rower in United States history to win three Olympic gold medals.
Fellow 2011 Stanford graduate, Grace Luczak was the stroke of the United States women's pair, rowing with Felice Mueller. The pair, which recorded the fastest time in the semifinals earlier in the week, placed fourth in Friday's A Final with a time of 7:24.77.
Luczak and Mueller were in medal contention for most of the course. Great Britain raced down the course in 7:18.29 to take the gold, followed by New Zealand (7:19.53) with the silver and Denmark (7:20.71) with the bronze.
The third formal Cardinal standout to compete in the 2016 Olympic Games also made history. Chierika Ukogu was Nigeria's first Olympic rower. She rowed in the single sculls, placing second in her Olympic debut in the heats earlier in the week to reach the quarterfinals. Ukogu completed her Olympic experience with a second-place finish in Saturday's D Final with a time of 7:44.76.
The former Cardinal trio continued a rich history of Olympic competition for the Stanford women's rowing program. We will wait four years to see who will be part of the next chapter of Cardinal Olympic rowers in the 2020 Games in Tokyo.
