STANFORD, Calif. – Thirteen Stanford men's water polo student-athletes were named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Scholar-Athletes, MPSF Executive Director, Al Baird announced. The Cardinal's total is the most of any school in the conference by at least six Scholar-Athletes.
Harrison Enright, Oliver Lewis, Mitchell Mendoza, Blake Parrish, Nelson Perla-Ward, Sam Pfeil, Justin Roberto, Spencer Rogers, Cody Smith, Marco Stanchi, Kyle Weikert, Grady Williams and Adam Warmoth were each recognized for their combined work athletically and in the classroom. To be eligible, students must have a 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore academically and have spent at least one academic year at the institution and must have competed in fifty percent of their team's competition this season.
Warmoth (engineering physics) and Pfeil (management science & engineering) earned MPSF academic laurels for the third straight season. Pfeil was fifth on the team in scoring with 20 goals, while Warmoth finished the season with nine scores.
Mendoza (undeclared), Enright (management science & engineering), Weikert (management science & engineering), Smith (symbolic systems) and Roberto (public policy) earned MPSF Scholar-Athlete recognition for the second straight year.
Smith, who was also an honorable mention Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-American and second team All-MPSF pick, finished second on the Cardinal roster with 37 goals on the year. The total was sixth-best in the MPSF with an average of 1.76 goals per game. Mendoza was third on team in scoring with 33 goals, while Roberto finished the year with 17 scores, Enright posted 15 goals and Weikert registered 11 scores.
Parrish (undeclared), Lewis, Perla-Ward (undeclared), Rogers (public policy), Stanchi (undeclared) and Williams (computer science) were each first-time MPSF Scholar-Athletes.
Parrish, who was also a Second Team Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-American and First Team All-MPSF selection, led Stanford in scoring with 48 goals on the year. He finished second in the MPSF in scoring with an average of 2.29 goals per game. Lewis was the Cardinal's starting goalie, posting 160 saves with a 7.74 goals-against average. Rogers finished the year with 10 goals, while Stanchi posted nine scores, Perla-Ward tallied X goals and Williams finished the season with three scores.
Stanford, ranked fifth in the final Collegiate Water Polo Association poll, concluded its season 13-8 overall with a fourth-place finish in the MPSF Tournament.
