Heading to Australia

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford will open the 2017 season at Australia's Sydney Cup on Aug. 26 (Aug. 27 in Australia) with a game against Rice, the two schools announced Monday. The game will take place at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.

This will be Stanford's second game ever outside the United States. The Cardinal and Arizona met in 1986 at Japan's Coca-Cola Bowl in Tokyo.

"We're excited for the opportunity to kick off the college football season in Australia against Rice in what will certainly be a fantastic experience for our fan base and alumni," said Bernard Muir, Stanford's Jaquish & Kenninger Director of Athletics. "I'm especially thrilled that our student-athletes will have this unique opportunity before fall classes begin to visit a new country and experience a different culture."

The game will replace a previously scheduled road contest for Stanford at Rice on Sept. 2.

Tickets and travel packages are available for purchase through Anthony Travel. Game tickets for the general public will be available for purchase on Feb. 12, with more information available soon at GoStanford.com/tickets.
