Hello Sandy Cardinal Fans!
This week, I am coming to you from the desert heat of Palm Springs for a Spring Break edition of BeachBlog. I have enjoyed the past few days relaxing by the pool, shopping and hanging out with my best friend, Lindsey, who plays volleyball at UC Santa Barbara.
Last weekend, the Sandy Cardinal completed its first competitive road trip of the season in Southern California. We finished the weekend 2-2 with wins against CSU Northridge and Irvine Valley College. Our losses came against two very seasoned and highly ranked teams, Hawaii and TCU -- our young team is learning more and more every week, and the tough competition is only going to make us better.
Some people might be upset if they had to play volleyball all weekend after finals instead of heading straight to Spring Break, but we were able to fit in some fun between our matches.
After our departure from campus at 5 a.m. on Saturday, we made a quick trip to the beach, which just turned into all of us napping in the sand. After the match against CSUN, the Raquels hosted a team dinner at their house, which was a feast with lobster, ribeye, Korean BBQ ribs and seabass served with fried rice and vegetables.
For dessert, we had chocolate covered strawberries, macarons, mochi ice cream and cake. After the tournament at IVC on Sunday, we each headed our separate ways for Spring Break, so I thought it would be fun to let you all know what everyone was up to this past week.
Courtney stayed the night with me in Newport Beach before flying to Cabo to meet up with Tami. Chelsea and Kathryn returned to their Orange County homes in Huntington Beach and Aliso Viejo, where they reunited with friends and enjoyed some beach days in the beautiful Southern California weather.
Shannon and her dorm friends rented a house in Santa Monica and celebrated a friend's birthday on a yacht. Kat Anderson went to Maui with friends from her dorm while Jenn visited family in San Diego.
Audriana and Morgan stayed in SoCal for a few days with the Keefes, before Caitlin flew to Boston to visit her boyfriend who plays basketball at Harvard.
Merete visited her brother, a recent Stanford grad who lives in Santa Monica. She also stayed a few days with Cat Raquel because the lobster and Korean BBQ from Saturday's dinner was so irresistible.
Alexis had some friends over at her family's house in Cayucos. Ivana spent a few days in San Francisco with her boyfriend who was visiting from Serbia.
Finally, Jenna competed in her first Stanford track meet and her mom and grandma flew out to watch her – she finished fourth in the javelin!
Your Sandy Cardinal have had a busy and fun break, but we are ready to get back to business next week. Please come out and support in our home matches against San Francisco and San Jose State next Friday, April 7, at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. PT!
Thanks for reading!
