STANFORD, Calif. – For the second consecutive night, No. 9 Stanford fell in straight sets to No. 2 UC Irvine, 25-23, 25-18, 33-31, Saturday, in front of more than 1,400 fans in Maples Pavilion.
Stanford (3-3) hit .225 for the match, while UC Irvine (7-0) posted a .236 clip. The Anteaters finished with 12.5 blocks and six aces, while the Cardinal tallied 6.5 blocks and two aces.
Junior outside hitter Theo Snoey registered a match-high 15 kills on .353 hitting, four digs and an ace. Sophomore outside hitter Nate Clinton added 10 kills, a career-high nine digs and two blocks.
The Cardinal held leads in all three sets, and found its offense in the third, posting 21 kills on .450 hitting. For the match, there were 23 tie scores and 12 lead changes, including 14 and seven in the third set alone.

Setter Theoren Brouillette dished out 35 assists to go with three digs, two blocks and a kill. Freshman Evan Porter started the match at libero, collecting five digs and an assist. Freshman Kai Schmitt started the third set at libero and recorded two digs and two assists.

Freshman Reed Wainwright earned his first collegiate start at middle blocker, totaling seven kills on .462 hitting, six blocks and three digs. Opposite Moses Wagner chipped in with seven kills, nine digs and two blocks.
UC Irvine was again led by Hillir Henno, who recorded 13 kills, eight digs, three aces, three assists and two blocks. Middle blocker Micah Goss added seven kills and seven block for the Anteaters.
Stanford hits the road next week, traveling to No. 4 Hawai’i on Wednesday and Friday. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
