Stanford’s Win Streak Ends at Four

The Cardinal was tripped up in its visit to Dallas by SMU

DALLAS – Falling for the first time in five games, and just the second time in eight games, Stanford men’s basketball dropped a road contest at SMU, 85-61, at Moody Coliseum. Stanford moves to 15-7 this season with a 7-4 record in the ACC.

Oziyah Sellers led the scoring with 19 points, to go with six rebounds and three assists, on 8-for-16 shooting, while Maxime Raynaud contributed 18 points and 10 rebounds for his nation-leading 18th double-double of the season. Stanford won the battle of the rebounds, 43-34, and grabbed a season-best 19 offensive rebounds as a team.

Evan Stinson and Jaylen Thompson each scored six points of the bench, with Thompson grabbing a career-best seven rebounds, while Cameron Grant had five points, six rebounds and three assists.

A difficult evening from the field, where Stanford was held to its lowest field goal percentage of the season, SMU jumped out to an early 23-point lead off the heels of a 20-2 run that lasted nearly eight minutes. Raynaud and Sellers combined for Stanford’s final 14 points of the period, and Stanford trailed at the break, 45-25.

Sellers scored 13 of hits 19 points in the second half, but the Cardinal was unable to cut into the SMU advantage. The Cardinal, which entered the night tied with the Mustangs for fourth in the ACC, was outscored 40-36 over the final 20 minutes to cement the final score.

Stanford returns home for two games at Maples Pavilion, starting with an 8 p.m. clash against Wake Forest on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
