A Bay Area native who attended nearby Gunn High School, Matt Mitchell won Stanford’s sixth NCAA singles champion as a sophomore in 1977. The same year, Mitchell helped the Cardinal capture its third national title in men’s tennis, and he would again be part of the squad that took the crown in 1978. The three-time first-team All-American would go on to experience success as a professional singles and doubles player, reaching No. 30 in the world in the latter category. | |||||||||||
