Williamsburg, Va. - The national ranked Stanford men's golf team led wire-to-wire at the 2007 NCAA Championships, capturing their first NCAA title since 1994 and eighth overall. The Cardinal finished at 11 under 1,109 (275-278-275-281), at the par 70, 6,803 yard Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, to stake a 12 stroke victory.

Stanford's last NCAA title came in 1994 in McKinney, Texas where the Cardinal squad of William Yanagisawa, Notah Begay III, Casey Martin, Steve Burdick and Brad Lanning recorded a team score of 1,129 to take top honors.

"Life works out in interesting ways because all we did all year was try notto talk about the results," said head coach Conrad Ray. "Let's just worry about the stuff we can control and I think this team really bought into that and they were able to do that all year and today it worked out again. It was just a really gutty performance and I'm really proud of the guys."

Rounding out the top 10 were Georgia (1,121), Lamar University (1,125), Charlotte (1,125), Coastal Carolina (1,128), Alabama (1,129), UCLA (1,130), Georgia Tech (1,131), Minnesota (1,133) and Florida (1,133).

The Cardinal was the only team to record a four round sub par total at 11 under 1,109.

Stanford was led by the play of junior Rob Grube who took third overall with a six under 274 (64-71-69-70). Grube posted 18 birdies over the course of the four day tournament.

Senior Zack Miller (70-69-67-73) and sophomore Daniel Lim (69-72-69-69) tied for 15th on the individual leaderboard at one under 279 for the tournament. Freshman Joseph Bramlett tied for 39th in his first NCAA appearance, carding a five over 285 (78-68-70-69). Senior Matt Savage closed out his collegiate career tied for 64th with a 292 (72-70-72-78).

"This is just an awesome place to hold a championship like this because it rewards good shots, but if you get too aggressive and greedy, it will penalize you in a heartbeat," said Ray. "That was our gameplan all week was to play the percentage plays. Hit it in the center of the green. Take two putts. If you get a good look at birdie, knock it in. Keep the ball out of the water on the par 3s. We were really able to do that most of the week."

In addition, head coach Conrad Ray was tabbed National Coach of the Year. Ray becomes the second Cardinal coach to earn national accolades (former head coach Wally Goodwin won the award in 1992 and 1994). Ray has also been honored as the Pacific Region and Pac-10 Coach of the Year this season.

The 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship will be held at the BirckBoilermaker Golf Complex Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind. PurdueUniversity will be the host institution.
