Trio Named Captains

STANFORD, Calif. – Dillon Schoen, Madison O'Leary and Kelsey Murray were selected as team captains for the 2018 Stanford women's lacrosse team, as announced by head coach Amy Bokker on Wednesday.

"We are fortunate to have Dillon, Madison and Kelsey as our team captains this year," Bokker said. "They all have extensive playing experience and have been standout players for us. The way they lead is a great recipe for success – they all bring something different to the table. Madison is a terrific communicator, Kelsey is an excellent director with a strong feel for the game, and Dillon is a great leader by example. We have a big freshmen class and a young group this year, so we are lucky to have such strong leadership among our upperclassmen."

Schoen is a two time all-conference selection and has played in every game over the last three seasons. Last season, the midfielder led the team with 28 caused turnovers – fourth-most in a season in school history. The Darien, Connecticut, native scored in all but two games and finished third on the team with 38 points (28 goals, 10 assists) in 2017.

O'Leary is a team captain for the second straight season. An all-region selection last season, O'Leary started all 18 games and finished third on the team with 17 caused turnovers. The Gainesville, Florida, native was also a first-team all-conference honoree in 2017.

Murray is Stanford's all-time career leader in points. She has a 55-game point streak and her 225 career points will look to chip into NCAA record books. Murray also has 142 career goals – which places her third all-time in program history and needs only four to become Stanford's all-time leader.

The Cardinal, which finished 12-6 last season, opens the 2018 slate at Denver on Saturday at noon PT. The first home game is against Stony Brook on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. The 2018 campaign also marks the inaugural season of Pac-12 play which begins on March 9 at Colorado.
