Trio Earn All-Academic Honors

STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Dorian Pickens was recognized as a First Team Pac-12 All-Academic selection for the third consecutive season to highlight three Cardinal men's basketball student-athletes on the conference's three all-academic teams.

Redshirt junior Robert Cartwright and redshirt freshman Kodye Pugh were honorable mention Pac-12 All-Academic picks.

Stanford's 66 total all-academic selections in the 33 years the Pac-12 has honored its academic standouts leads the conference. The total is 28 more than the next closest conference school (Washington State).

Pickens was named to the Pac-12's five-member first team all three years he was eligible for conference all-academic honors. The senior, who owns a 3.42 cumulative grade-point average as a communication major, was also selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division I Men's Basketball Academic All-District Team. The Cardinal was voted to the prestigious National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court as a junior last season and is a candidate for selection again this season.

Pickens was a standout for the Cardinal on the court as well, earning honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors. He finished his career eighth in Stanford history in career three-point field goals with 196. The forward led the Pac-12 in three-point field goals (3.1 per game), ranked sixth in three-point field goal percentage (.455) and eighth in scoring (15.9 ppg) in conference play. He led Stanford with 67 three-point field goals as a senior, despite missing 11 games with a foot injury. The Cardinal completed his career as one of 47 members of Stanford's 1,000-point club with 1,186 career points in 116 games.

Cartwright, a Science, Technology and Society major, played in 27 games with six starts this season. He averaged 4.7 points and 2.3 assists in 17.9 minutes per game. Cartwright was recognized on the Pac-12 All-Academic Team for the first time in his career.

Pugh, who has not yet declared a major, played in 17 games for the Cardinal, averaging six minutes per contest. He was limited with an injury early in the season, before returning to action late in the nonconference portion of the schedule. The forward scored four points in 15 minutes of action in the win over San Francisco. This conference all-academic honor is Pugh's first.

To be eligible for selection on the conference's three all-academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be a starter or significant contributor.

Stanford completed its season 19-16 overall, finishing third in the Pac-12 with an 11-7 record. The conference win total and finish is the Cardinal's highest in 10 seasons. Under second-year Stanford head coach, Jerod Haase, the Cardinal earned a postseason berth for the first time in three seasons. Stanford advanced to the second round of the National Invitation Tournament, falling to Oklahoma State Monday night in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
