Win Streak Hits Nine

PULLMAN, Wash. - No. 22 Stanford picked up another quality road win over a ranked opponent Friday afternoon, defeating No. 37 Washington State 4-2 and extending its winning streak to nine.

Playing the first of its final two road matches of the season, the Cardinal (13-3, 7-0 Pac-12) was tested against the Cougars (20-4, 6-2 Pac-12) but prevailed thanks to its superior depth.

Stanford, which has not lost since a 4-3 defeat to Florida back on Feb. 24, continued its surge as one of the nation's hottest teams as the postseason approaches. The Cardinal remains atop the Pac-12 standings with two matches to play in the regular season.

Friday's match was shifted indoors due to weather, but Stanford quickly adjusted by easily claiming the doubles point for a 1-0 lead.

Caroline Lampl's 6-4, 6-1 victory over Tiffany Mylonas at the No. 3 spot gave the Cardinal a 2-0 advantage.

Washington State collected its first point on court four, where Emily Arbuthnott fell to Barbora Michalkova 7-5, 6-2.

Melissa Lord's 7-5, 6-4 win over Guzal Yusupova put Stanford on the brink of clinching the match at 3-1.

The Cougars then trimmed the deficit to 3-2, as Michaela Bayerlova outlasted Michaela Gordon 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 at the top spot of the lineup.

Janice Shin made it official with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Aneta Miksovska at the No. 5 position.

Stanford concludes its road trip on Saturday at Washington in a match scheduled for noon.
