Another Series Sweep for Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 7 Stanford swept their second Pac-12 series of the season with a 3-1 win over No. 20 Arizona on Saturday at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. This is the first time the Cardinal have swept the Wildcats since 2009 and the first season with two series sweeps since 2021.

Alana Vawter (14-3) recorded her 15th complete game of the season and picked up the win for Stanford (31-6, 8-4 Pac-12). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.

River Mahler got things started in the first with an RBI single to drive in Taylor Gindlesperger, who made it to third after stealing second and advancing to third on an error. Arizona tied it up in the second with a home run, the seventh Vawter has given up this season.

Stanford's defense put in the work, with Emily Young and Mahler each turning a double play to keep Arizona from scoring.

The offense got going again for the Cardinal in the fifth to break the tie. Vawter came in to pinch hit and brought in the winning run from Sydney Steele. Gindlesperger followed in the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly to score Emily Jones to take Stanford up 3-1.

Stanford is back on the road next week to face Utah in a weekend series, followed by a single game at BYU.
