Stanford Defeats Penn State

Cardinal finishes 2-0 in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – Led by Theo Snoey, No. 11 Stanford defeated No. 14 Penn State, 23-25, 30-28, 25-20, 25-19, Saturday, to close out the First Point Collegiate Challenge at the Austin Convention Center.

Stanford (3-1) hit .242 as a team, while holding Penn State (0-4) to a .139 clip. The Cardinal finished with 42 kills, 9.0 blocks, 37 digs and six aces. It was the first time Stanford played more than three sets in a match this season.

Snoey turned in a match-high 15 kills on .323 hitting to go with seven digs. Opposite Moses Wagner added nine kills, six digs, four blocks and three aces.

Setter Theoren Brouillette recorded 33 assists and had three blocks, a dig, a kill and an ace. Freshman libero Evan Porter racked up a career-high 15 digs and had two assists.

Junior Ryan DuRoss started at outside hitter and tallied eight kills, seven digs, four blocks and two aces. Middle blocker Kaumana Carreira hit .400 with five kills on 10 swings with just one miscue. The freshman also had five blocks.

Sophomore Gray Mandelbaum started the match at middle blocker and totaled two kills, a block and a dig in two sets played. Junior Luke McFall replaced Mandelbaum in the second set and finished with two kills and three blocks.

Penn State was led by Will Kuhns and Matthew Luoma who each registered 10 kills. Middle blocker Owen Rose added seven kills on .429 hitting and seven blocks.

Up next, Stanford welcomes No. 3 UC Irvine to The Farm for a pair of matches, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
