Duo Earns Weekly Honors

Diver Jack Ryan and butterfly specialist Andrei Minakov earn recognition from the ACC

STANFORD, Calif. – Two Cardinal men earned weekly honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday.

Jack Ryan was named ACC Men’s Diver of the Week and Andrei Minakov was recognized as the ACC Men’s Co-Swimmer of the Week. Each was rewarded for their double victories in Stanford’s Big Splash dual meet at Cal on Friday.

Ryan won the 1-meter and 3-meter dives against the Golden Bears, scoring  366.00 and 426.98, respectively. 
In the 1-meter, Ryan scored highest with an inward 2 ½ somersault tuck on his second attempt, receiving a net score of 22.50 with a 3.10 degree of difficulty for a score of 69.75. In the 3-meter, Ryan hit a reverse 3 ½ somersault tuck with a 3.50 degree of difficulty, with a net score of 24.00 for a score of 84.00. That came on the fourth of his six attempts.

Minakov swam the nation’s fastest times for the week in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200 fly. He won each event, with times of 44.83 and 1:40.54. Minakov also anchored Stanford’s second-place 400 freestyle relay team and was the third leg on Stanford’s runner-up 200 medley relay team.

Minakov shares the ACC honor with Cal’s Lucas Henveaux.

For Ryan, this is his second Diver of the Week honor this season.
