Slotted Fifth

Cardinal picked in top half in inaugural ACC season while gathering two preseason conference selections

ACC Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — WIth its debut in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) on the horizon, the Stanford women’s lacrosse team has been picked fifth in the ACC Preseason Coaches’ Poll while registering two players on the Preseason All-ACC Team.

Stanford, which enters a new era in the ACC after a seven-year tenure in the Pac-12, accumulated 87 points in the poll, earning the fifth place nod ahead of Notre Dame (86). Defending national champion Boston College (143) is picked to lead the pack, gathering 11 of 12 first-place votes with North Carolina (126) and Virginia (118) picked to finish closely behind. Syracuse (114), which enters 2025 having won the ACC regular-season title in 2024, grabbed the final first-place vote to round out the top four.

Stanford also placed two athletes on the Preseason All-ACC Team with Annabel Frist and Aliya Polisky being tabbed to the list. Frist, who enters the season having been named a two-time Pac-12 Draw Specialist of the Year was named to the All-ACC team for draw controls. Polisky earned a nod on the All-ACC At-Large list along with five other athletes with the rising redshirt-sophomore having led the Cardinal last season in goals (53) and points (71). Stanford is one of only five schools to have an athlete represented on the Preseason All-ACC Team.

The Cardinal takes on six of the remaining seven teams picked to finish below them in the preseason poll with the one outlier being Duke, which is slotted eighth. After sixth-ranked Notre Dame in seventh is Clemson (74), followed by Duke (63), Virginia Tech (45), Louisville (36), Pitt (31) and Cal (13).

Stanford begins the 2025 campaign this weekend at former Pac-12 foe USC on Saturday, February 8, taking on the Trojans at 1 p.m. The Cardinal begins ACC competition on the road against Virginia on Feb. 22.
