STANFORD, Calif. – No. 15 Stanford nearly completed a three-game sweep of rival California, instead collecting an important series win despite falling 10-8 on Saturday afternoon to close out the weekend.

In one of the most highly anticipated gameday environments for any Stanford sport in recent memory, Cardinal fans delivered. Saturday’s Big Swing crowd of 13,207 at Stanford Stadium set an NCAA single-game attendance record, surpassing previous bests of 12,566 on May 30, 2024 (Women’s College World Series session 2) and the regular-season mark of 9,259 on April 9, 2025 (Oklahoma State at Oklahoma).

With renovation of Boyd & Jill Smith Family Stadium in progress, the Cardinal has been playing its home games at Stanford Stadium for the 2025 campaign. Stanford, which is now 19-3 at home, has featured five crowds of at least 1,000 this season.

Jade Berry, Kyra Chan and Joie Economides all homered for Stanford, increasing a recent power surge as the Cardinal has slugged 82 overall in 2025 to rank eighth in the NCAA and second in the ACC.

Despite trailing 5-0 before coming to the plate, Stanford (32-9, 11-7 ACC) continued to chip away at the lead throughout the game.

California (30-16, 7-11 ACC) homered on the game’s first pitch and plated five runs on five hits in the first.

Stanford quickly answered in the home half, as Berry crushed her 11th home run of the season and fifth in the last seven games, cutting the deficit to 5-3.

The Golden Bears moved in front 7-3 after two innings before Chan delivered a three-run blast, extending her hitting streak to 19 games.

California tacked on three more in the top of the fourth, making it 10-6.

Economides’ solo homer brought Stanford to within 10-7 after five innings before a sacrifice fly from Taryn Kern scored Caelan Koch, who led the Cardinal with two hits, to make it 10-8 through six.

The Cardinal was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Stanford is on the road next week for a Tuesday matchup with Sacramento State, before returning to Stanford Stadium again on Friday. The three-game series with Virginia starts at 6:00 p.m. PT, with tickets available at Tickets.GoStanford.com. The game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
