Six Named All-ACC

No. 13/12 Stanford placed six members on All-ACC teams following inaugural season

STANFORD, Calif. — Following an outstanding first season in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) six members of the Stanford women’s lacrosse team have been named All-ACC honorees, the conference announced Tuesday.

Stanford’s six nominees is tied for the third-most of any school as the Cardinal sits alongside Syracuse, Duke and Clemson with six honorees each followed by Virginia (3), Notre Dame (3), Virginia Tech (2) and Pitt (1). Boston College and North Carolina lead the way with eight nominees each.

Aliya Polisky earns the highest honor for the Cardinal having been named to the All-ACC First Team in just her second season on The Farm. Polisky, who enters this week’s ACC championships as the single-season record holder for shots, tied her career high 53 goals with two in the win over Cal last Thursday which also ties the record for fourth-most goals in a single season in program history which she set last season. Polisky leads the Cardinal with 67 points this season, which slots five points shy of cracking into the top-10 in single season scoring all-time. Polisky is fifth in the conference in goals and eighth in points entering the week as the Preseason All-ACC At-Large nominee claims Stanford’s first major conference nod.

Sophia Brindisi earns a spot on the All-ACC Second Team in what has been an astonishing season to date for the senior defender. Brindisi, who was named an Inside Lacrosse Women’s DI Media All-American Honorable Mention earlier this season, has been a staple for the Stanford defensive corps that sits fifth in the nation in scoring defense (8.59) while placing in the top five in the ACC in scoring defense (3rd, 8.59), caused turnovers per game (4th, 9.24) and ground balls per game (3rd, 17.76). Brindisi claimed ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors back on April 8 following a season-high four caused turnovers and grabbing three ground balls in Stanford’s 8-7 win over then-No. 21 Notre Dame. The senior currently sits third on the team in both ground balls (29) and caused turnovers (19) heading into the week’s postseason tournament.

Stanford racked up four other nominations on the All-ACC Third Team with Ava Arceri, Jordyn Case, Lucy Pearson and Olivia Rose all being named to the list. Arceri is enjoying a breakout sophomore campaign for the Cardinal, sitting second in points with 62 on the season following a seven-point outing against Cal. Arceri claimed ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors on March 4 following a nine-point weekend against Pitt and Villanova. Jordyn Case earns the accolade in what has also been a strong season for the junior attacker as she was named IWLCA and ACC Player of the Week on February 25 for her performance in Stanford’s historic win over Virginia to begin ACC play. Case is tied for fourth on the team in points with 25 while only appearing in 11 games this season for Stanford in her bounceback campaign.

Stanford’s defense racks up two more honors on the All-ACC Third team with Pearson and Rose being named to the conference’s accolades list. Pearson has had a strong junior campaign, leading the Cardinal to a 13-4 record with a 9.07 goals-against average and .469 save percentage, spearheading one of the nation’s top defenses. Pearson earned IWLCA and ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors following Stanford’s win over then-No. 4 Yale as the Philadelphia native made a career-high 15 saves. Rose earns her first-ever conference performance accolade with the Third Team kudos as the sophomore defender has earned career-high’s in both caused turnovers (25) and ground balls (46) this season. Rose, like Pearson and Brindisi, has been part of a formidable Stanford defensive posture that sits near the top in DI in scoring defense and has limited opponents to 10 or fewer goals in 14 contests this season.
