STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 15 Cardinal dropped a game at Stanford Stadium for the first time this season, falling 7-5 to Clemson to move to 25-7 (8-5) on the season. The loss snaps a season-opening streak of 16-straight wins.
Clemson took the lead in the top of the first inning, breaking open the scoring with a two-run homer. The Tigers added a third run in the third, but this time the Cardinal was able to answer back quickly.
Kyra Chan singled in the Card’s first run in the bottom of the third, bringing Emily Jones in from third to cut the lead to 3-1.
Jones brought in another run in the fourth to make it a one-run game at 3-2, but Clemson answered in the top of the fifth with a bases-loaded walk to make it 4-2. Then in the sixth, a three-run homer made it a 7-2 Tiger lead.
Stanford was able to answer quickly – Kylie Chung got ahold of the first pitch she saw in the sixth inning, crushing a solo home run to make it 7-3. Three batters later, River Mahler doubled to bring in two more and make it a 7-5 final.
The Cardinal is back against Clemson tomorrow, starting at 2:00 p.m. PT. Tickets are available at Tickets.GoStanford.com, and the game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
