STANFORD, Calif. – No. 9 Stanford men’s tennis opened its final ACC homestand with an efficient victory, downing No. 47 North Carolina, 4-0, at Arrillaga Tennis Center-Taube Pavilion. Stanford improves to 17-5 on the season and 8-3 in the ACC.
Moving to 3-0 all-time against North Carolina, Stanford opened the scoring early in doubles with wins on courts two and three. Max Basing and Alex Razeghi paired for a 6-1 triumph in the third position while Nico Godsick and Hudson Rivera tallied a 7-5 win on court two. Godsick and Rivera move to 4-0 as a tandem – all in dual play – while Basing and Razeghi improve to 2-0.
Rivera carried his momentum into singles to extend the Cardinal advantage to 2-0. Winning the first 11 games of the match, Rivera closed out a 6-0, 6-1 victory for his sixth dual win of the campaign. Kyle Kang posted his third win of the season in the top position, and his ninth of the year overall, with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Posting his team-leading 15th singles victory of the year, and his 10th in dual play, Henry von der Schulenburg clinched his third match of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court three.
Stanford returns to action on Sunday, April 6 at 12:30 p.m. against No. 15 Duke.
