BOSTON – The No. 16 Cardinal set a new program record for runs scored today, topping Boston College 20-7 to move to 38-10 on the year and 15-8 in ACC play. Taryn Kern tied another program record in the win, hitting her 19th homer of the year to move into a three-way tie for the most homers in a single season.
Stanford opened the game with a multi-run first inning for the second-straight game. Three runs came across to score on an RBI single from Kyra Chan, a bases-loaded walk from Joie Economides and a sacrifice fly from Caelan Koch.
The Eagles were able to respond in the home half of the first, scoring three of their own to level the game.
In the second, Kern put the Card back in front with the record-breaking blast to right-center. The junior’s 19 homers are the most in a season by a Cardinal batter since Rosey Neill did it in 2008.
Alyssa Houston followed it up with a shutdown inning in the bottom of the inning, striking out the side.
Kern added two more in the third, singling in a pair to make it a 6-3 Cardinal lead. Boston College was able to answer again with two runs in the bottom of the third, but the Card bats kept coming.
Jade Berry and Economides each homered in the fourth to make it 9-5. Then in the fifth, Chan crushed a three-run homer to make it 12-5. Then in the sixth inning, Stanford erupted for even more damage.
Berry and Emily Jones each singled in a pair of runs to make it 16-5, then back-to-back bases-loaded walks made it 18-5.
With the bases loaded and two out, Sydney Boulaphinh singled in two more to break the program record for runs scored in a game with 20.
Boston College scored twice in the sixth to make it a 20-7 final.
The Cardinal closes the three-game series with Boston College tomorrow. The regular-season finale starts at 11:00 a.m. PT, and will be streamed on ACC Network. Stanford
