Comeback Falls Short

TUCSON, Ariz. – Rebounding from a rough start on the uneven bars, the No. 20 Stanford women's gymnastics team fought gamely but couldn't overcome the early deficit while falling to No. 25 Arizona, 195.725-195.025 on Sunday afternoon at the McKale Center.
 
After digging a deep hole, the youthful Cardinal (6-7, 0-3 Pac-12) rallied behind senior Elizabeth Price and pushed the Wildcats in the final rotation. Stanford posted a season-high 49.325 on the balance beam, as freshmen Kyla Bryant, Rachael Flam and Lauren Navarro each scored 9.875 to share top honors.
 
Price regrouped after a slip on the uneven bars to capture the floor exercise (9.925) and vault (9.900).

She was the only competitor to tally 9.900 or above.
 
Bryant won her first-around title with a score of 39.400. She finished second on bars (9.825), tied for second on floor exercise (9.850) and tied for fifth on vault (9.850).
 
Flam, last week's all-around champion at the UC Davis quad meet, matched her career-high on vault (9.875) and established a personal best on beam (9.875) in just her second appearance in the event.
 
"We continue to show growth in different areas," said Cardinal head coach Tabitha Yim. "We just need to put the whole thing together."
 
Stanford resumes competition on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. when it hosts Cal at Maples Pavilion.
