Cardinal Belts Five Home Runs in 11-2 Win

Economides homers twice in run-rule win at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. – No. 15 Stanford continued a hot streak at the plate, scoring more than 10 runs for the fourth-straight game and belting five home runs to beat Pacific 11-2 today in five innings. The Cardinal has now hit 18 home runs in the last four games, and moves to 30-8 on the season.

The Card struck first, scoring twice in the first inning thanks to back-to-back triples from Jade Berry and Kyra Chan.

Kylie Chung, starting in the circle for Stanford, followed up with a shutdown inning in the home half of the first to make it a 2-0 lead after an inning of play.

In the third inning, Berry crushed another extra-base hit – this time leaving the yard for her third home run in the last four games. Her ninth home run of the year led off the inning to make it a 3-0 Cardinal lead, and moved her into sole possession of the second-most homers on the team.

Chung added another in the inning to help her own cause, singling in a run to make it 4-0 after three.

The Cardinal led off the fourth inning with a home run too, this time it was Taryn Kern going yard. Her 18th of the season, and eighth in the last six games, made it a 5-0 Stanford lead.

Chan and Joie Economides followed Kern with home runs in the inning, pushing the lead to 8-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.

Pacific added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 8-2, but Stanford quickly responded.

Chan doubled in another run, her fourth RBI of the day. Then Economides’ second home run of the afternoon brought her home to make it an 11-2 score.

Alyssa Houston entered in the fifth, tossing a perfect inning and striking out two to wrap up the win. Chung finished with the victory, allowing two runs on four hits in four innings of work. Chung finished the day 3-for-3 at the plate as well, driving in a run.

Stanford returns home next for a three-game slate against California. The ACC series with the Golden Bears starts on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. PT, leading up to Saturday’s Big Swing at 1:00 p.m. PT.

The Cardinal and Bears are looking to break the NCAA softball single game attendance record playing at Stanford Stadium. More information, and tickets, are available at GoStanfod.com/BigSwing.
