Stanford welcomes Wisconsin to Redwood Shores on Saturday morning

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford lightweight rowing is on home water for the first time this season, playing host to Wisconsin on Saturday, April 19. Competition is set to begin at 9 a.m. PT in Redwood City, Calif. 

The Cardinal 4+ boat ranks second in the nation, followed by the double sitting third in the country and the Cardinal eight slotting in at number four. 

LAST TIME OUT » Stanford lightweight rowing competed in its first spring race day last weekend, battling harsh racing conditions in a road dual against Princeton. Racing began with the varsity eight, as the Cardinal 8+ posted a time of 7:41.8, fourteen seconds behind Princeton's 7:27.8. The Tigers also took the 4+ race with an 8:34.3, with Stanford coming in behind with an 8:56.1. The Princeton B boat finished with a 9:21.5 mark. Competition came to a close with the 2x, as the Cardinal double crossed the finishing line at 10:28.5, finishing 0:33.9 behind Princeton at 9:54.6. 

HEAD OF THE CHARLES » The Cardinal lights competed in just one event in the fall, with the varsity 8+ boat finishing seventh at the Head of the Charles in Boston. Freshman Campbell McClellan made her collegiate debut in the no. 1 seat, joining a boat that included all four returners from last season’s champion varsity 4+ boat.

RESURGENCE AT IRA'S » Stanford's varsity 4+ boat took home a national championship last June, part of a Cardinal effort that finished second in the Commissioner's Cup standings at the IRA Championships. Four of the five members of the 4+ boat return for the 2024-25 season.

ALL-AMERICAN RETURNER » Sophomore Grace Padula is back after a breakout fall campaign, earning CRCA All-American honors in her first season on The Farm.

YEAR TWO FOR HOUSTON » Lizzy Houston enters her second season at the helm of the Cardinal lights, looking to build on last season's success. Stanford came within a point of Princeton for the top spot in fall's Commissioner's Cup standings.
