Blizzard Wild Card Challenge

STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore Michaela Gordon will play for her second singles title of the season and third of her career when the USTA Collegiate Blizzard Wild Card Challenge wraps up Tuesday morning.

Gordon, who repeated as the ITA Northwest Regional champion back in October, will square off against Duke's Kelly Chen on Tuesday at 7 a.m. PT in the final of the eight-player event. The match will be streamed live here.

Gordon advanced through the round-robin group stage by winning two of three matches, including a 7-6, 2-6, 10-4 victory over Chen in the second match of the tournament.

On Monday, Gordon cruised past Pepperdine's Ashley Lahey 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals.

The women's champion earns a spot in the main draw of a 2019 $60K tournament. Along with wild cards, players will also compete for a guaranteed spot on the 2019 Collegiate National Team. A member of the squad receives grant money to travel to professional tournaments and coaching from USTA Player Development staff.

Named an ITA All-American in both singles and doubles in 2018, Gordon was also recognized as Stanford's first ITA National Rookie of the Year since 2011. The Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and an All-Pac-12 first team honoree, Gordon (22-11 overall, 12-9 duals) played all of her matches at the No. 1 spot of the lineup.

The event is being hosted by USTA Player Development and the USTA Collegiate Department.
