FOOTBALL POST-GAME QUOTES
Arizona State 41, at Stanford 3 (Stanford, CA - Stanford Stadium)
September 29, 2007

STANFORD
HEAD COACH JIM HARBAUGH
On The Game
"They did an excellent job shutting down our run tonight. I thought it was just overall ineffectiveness on our part because you can't just focus on one part of the game tonight. I thought we didn't execute very well tonight, and we didn't perform the way we know we can."

On Stanford's Defense
"Early on our defense was playing very well, as was our special teams. We didn't play the way we can in the second half. Our defense came free a couple times tonight, and it was nice to see a pass rush. It needs to have an offense that compliments them and keeps them off the field, but that wasn't the case as we were giving up sacks tonight as well."

On Moving Forward
"We need to do a better job as coaches and our players need to execute better themselves. Tonight was the first time I feel we haven't gotten better this season, and I feel we need to regroup and keep working hard."

QUARTERBACK T.C. OSTRANDER
On The Game
"We just didn't execute tonight, the run game hurt us but we weren't very effective on the offensive side of the ball tonight. They (Arizona State) did a good job, but they didn't show us anything that we didn't know and didn't prepare for throughout the week."

On Moving Forward
"I feel like we have leaders on this team, and we need to put our work in next week. We are student-athletes, but everyone on this team needs to put in the extra time next week and work on football. Everybody needs to take it upon themselves to get better individually. We need to do that and perform better as a team. It is frustrating because I know we are better than we showed tonight, and we need to represent this school better than we did tonight."

ARIZONA STATE
HEAD COACH DENNIS ERICKSON
On The Game
"We played great on defense and what can you say when you hold somebody to -2 rushing, although there were some sacks involved in that. You can't ask for much more, and it gave the offense opportunities when they weren't moving the ball early. We just played great on defense. I thought we ran the ball great on offense and made plays when we had to, and it was a win. [It was] a win on the road in California for the first time in a while."

On Rudy Burgess' Strong Play
"Yes, Rudy is playing well, he's catching the football and making big plays for us. We all knew he could do that, and he's starting to do that."

WIDE RECEIVER RUDY BURGESS
On Offense
"We had our ups and downs during the game, but we just had to get that momentum that we've been looking for and it just took a little bit longer than we thought."

On His Touchdown
"Coach said someone has to go out and break the ice a little and Rudy (Carpenter) called my number and got me the ball, and I was able to go out and make a big play. I think that was what got us started and got the momentum building."

On ASU's First Win In California As A Fifth-Year Senior
"It's great, I had no idea what this feels like until today, and its great to finally get that first win in California playing in front of my home crowd and come out with a victory."

QUARTERBACK RUDY CARPENTER
On Stanford's Defense
"They made some corner blitzes and some looks we hadn't seen so that's why we started off a little slow in the first quarter in the passing game and most of the sacks tonight were my fault, not the offensive line. I wasn't getting rid of the ball in time."

On Rudy Burgess' Big Game
"It's really encouraging for us because Rudy Burgess is probably one of our best playmakers if not our best playmaker, and we need him to do stuff like that. It's good to get him back and healthy, and I think he's starting to show what he can do."

On The Late First Half Touchdown To Break The Game Open
We had been sputtering. We were driving and driving but couldn't punch one in, and it's always important to get a score before half especially with the game how it was. When you have huge momentum shifts like that it usually takes some life out of the other team. And it's hard to battle back. Our defense did a great job keeping the pressure on tonight and staying patient with the offense."
