TULSA, Okla. – Sophomore Axel Geller won for the third time Saturday morning to reach the quarterfinals, before bowing out to No. 20 Emil Reinberg to end his run at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Geller, ranked No. 48 in the ITA preseason poll, defeated Texas' Christian Sigsgaard, 6-2, 7-5, in the first round Thursday, then knocked off the third overall seed and No. 5 player in the ITA preseason rankings in Mississippi State's Giovanni Oradini, 6-3, 6-2, Friday. The Cardinal sophomore advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-7(2), 6-4, 7-5 win over No. 20 Oliver Crawford of Florida Saturday morning. Geller's run in the tournament came to an end Saturday afternoon with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat to Reinberg, the No. 38 ranked player in the ITA.
Freshman Alexandre Rotsaert's run at the ITA All-American Championships came to an end on Friday. He dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to the No. 25 player in the ITA preseason rankings in Texas A&M's Valentin Vacherot. Rotsaert won three qualifying matches to earn a spot in the main draw and captured a first-round victory over Wake Forest's Menelaos Efstathiou (7-5, 6-4) on Thursday.
The week-long event began with qualifying rounds this past Monday and will conclude with the championship match this coming Monday, Oct. 8. The Round of 16 and quarterfinals will be contested on Saturday, with semifinal action Sunday and the championship match Monday.
