More Academic Honors for Pickens

STANFORD, Calif. – For the second consecutive year, Dorian Pickens has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court, the NABC Committee on Academics announced.

The NABC Honors Court recognized men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics for the 2017-18 season. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a junior or a senior, own a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher and the conclusion of the academic year, and have played at least one season at his current institution.

Pickens, a Phoenix, Arizona, native, earned a bachelor's degree in communications this past June. He graduated Stanford with an outstanding 3.403 cumulative grade-point average. A First Team Pac-12 All-Academic selection all three years he was eligible for the honor, Pickens was voted the 2018 Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year. He was also selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team this past season.

He was part of Stanford program that was recognized for the fifth time in six years with the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award earlier this month.

Pickens, who was an All-Pac-12 pick by the coaches for his performance on the court as a senior as well, completed his Cardinal career ranked eighth in school history with 196 career threes. Pickens was second on the Stanford roster in scoring and led the Cardinal with 68 three-pointers as a senior, despite missing 11 games with a foot injury. The forward finished eighth in the Pac-12 in scoring at 15.9 ppg during conference action. He was the conference's top three-point shooter, leading the league at 3.1 three-point field goals per game during conference play. Pickens finished sixth in the conference in three-point field goal percentage (.455) in league action. He finished his career as one of 47 members of Stanford's 1,000-point club, with 1,186 career points.

The Cardinal captain was one of eight Pac-12 student-athletes and one of just three regular starters in the conference (Oregon State's Tres Tinkle and Steven Thompson, Jr. were the other two) to earn a spot on the 2017-18 NABC Honors Court.

The NABC Honors Court was established in 2007 and is now in its 12th year. For additional information on the NABC, the Honors Court or the Team Academic Excellence Award, visit www.nabc.org.
