Get to Know Caitie Baird

What's your favorite way to spend a day off?On my off days I usually like to sleep in a little, catch up on work, run some errands, and hangout with my teammates. We're really into movie nights right now.

What surprised you the most about being a student-athlete at Stanford?I thought coming into college the transition would be overwhelming and I wouldn't have time for things, but with all the resources provided to us it was totally manageable and not as scary as I thought it would be.

Do you have any pet peeves?I always hate this question because in the moment I can't think of any until it happens and I'm like "oh that's it!" But after some thought: slow walkers, being late, and people talking over you.

If you weren't playing volleyball at Stanford, what sport would you want to play?Basketball. I played basketball way before volleyball and growing up I wanted to be like my mom who played in college. She was always my coach and she's the reason I love the game so much.

Do you have any prematch rituals? If so, what are they?I always braid my hair and I usually wear a scrunchie or ribbon.

Outside of volleyball, what's something you're passionate about and why?I grew up a huge sports girls so I love watching other athletes playing the game they love and perfecting their craft. I also really enjoy trying new things and challenging myself to grow.

Why did you choose to attend Stanford?I knew Stanford would challenge me both academically and athletically, which I highly valued, but more importantly, it felt like a home away from home. My teammates, the community, the support, and everyone else I have met thus far have made my experience incredible and have pushed me to be a better person.
