CORVALLIS, Ore. – Stanford women's soccer concluded its road swing through Oregon with a 2-1 loss to Oregon State, Sunday at Paul Lorenz Field. The match does not count towards the Pac-12 standings.
The Beavers scored twice in the second half, including the game-winner in the 83rd minute from Abby Schwartz.
Samantha Williams scored Stanford's (1-2-0, 0-1-0) lone goal of the day in the 26th minute. In a crowded box, the freshman was able to step between two defenders and fired a shot that went to the left of the goal right past the hands of the diving keeper.
The goal is the first of her career.
Stanford (1-2-0, 0-1-0) kept the pressure on the Beavers all game long, and had a potential equalizer be saved in the box in the final 20 seconds. Civana Kuhlmann had a the ball in the center of the goal, but an Oregon State defender was able to keep her from firing off a shot before the goalkeeper came up to fall on the ball and end the possession.
Less than a minute prior to Oregon State's (2-2-0, 0-1-0) go-ahead go, the Cardinal threatened on a free kick from Sarah Paulson. The freshman lobbed the ball into the box from 30 yards out, and the Beaver goalkeeper stepped up to try and make a grab. A Stanford player headed the ball towards the empty net, but an Oregon State defender was able to deflect the ball in the opposite direction inches away from crossing the line.
Stanford controlled the attack for much of the match and led the Beavers in shots, 15-6.
The Cardinal will look to regroup and pick up a Pac-12 win this upcoming weekend against the conference's mountain schools. Stanford will host Utah on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m., and Colorado on Sunday at noon.
