Stanford Falls to UCLA

STANFORD, Calif. – Playing for the second time in less than 24 hours, Stanford dropped a 25-23, 25-21, 25-18 decision to No. 6 UCLA, Wednesday, at Maples Pavilion.

UCLA (11-4) had another impressive performance from the service line, registering 10 aces as a team. The Bruins hit .432, while holding the Cardinal (1-10) to a .278 clip. UCLA held a 6.5 to 3.0 advantage in blocks and out dug Stanford, 24-17.

Sophomore Will Rottman led the team with 12 kills on .333 hitting. Senior middle blocker Kyler Presho added six kills on .600 hitting and two blocks, while sophomore middle blocker Nathaniel Gates hit .571 with four kills on seven errorless swings and notched an ace.


Sophomore setter Nathan Lietzke totaled 26 assists, had a team-high six digs and tallied the team's other ace. Redshirt sophomore Justin Lui finished with three digs and an assist.

Freshman Aidan Peters recorded four kills, four digs and a blocks, while sophomore Kevin Lamp had three kills and a block off the bench.
 


UCLA was led by Ethan Champlin's 15 kills on .423 hitting to go with seven digs and a pair of aces. Cole Ketrzynski totaled nine kills, seven digs, three blocks and a match-high four aces.

Stanford hits the road this weekend for three matches at USC, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
