Card Falters against Trojans

LOS ANGELES – Utilizing its 11th different starting lineup of the season, Stanford fell at USC, 25-14, 25-18, 25-22, Sunday, at the Galen Center.

USC (5-8) hit .461 while holding the Cardinal (1-13) to a .277 clip. The Trojans racked up eight aces, including five by redshirt junior Billy Fauntleroy. Stanford finished with 14 digs, 4.0 blocks and a pair of aces.

Freshman opposite Kupono Browne led Stanford with 10 kills on 17 swings with just one error for a .529 attack percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Kevin Lamp added nine kills on .438 hitting, four digs and two blocks.
 


Senior Mason Tufuga earned the start at setter and dished out 17 assists, to go with three digs, two kills and an ace. Redshirt sophomore libero Justin Lui chipped in with four assists and a dig.
 


Freshman outside hitter Luke Turner recorded eight kills, two digs and an ace for Stanford. Freshman setter Chris Kelly came off the bench and tallied three assists and a dig, while junior Hunter Dickey earned time as a serving sub in all three sets.
 


 USC's Brandon Browning led the Trojans with 11 kills on .917 hitting. Clay Dickinson also registered 11 kills for USC to go with four blocks, while Fauntleroy added 10 kills on .438 hitting.

Stanford returns to The Farm next week to continue MPSF play against Concordia on Friday and Saturday. Both matches are slated for 4 p.m. in Maples Pavilion.
