Garvin Etches Name in History

     

Hunter Garvin became the program's first individual ACC champion, highlighting No. 18 Stanford's fifth-place finish at the conference tournament on Sunday at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The No. 1 seed at 165 pounds, Garvin received a bye into the semifinals where he dominated No. 5 seed Mac Church of Virginia Tech, 11-1. In the finals, Garvin registered a 5-1 decision over No. 2 seed Nick Hamilton of Virginia. The redshirt sophomore is now 19-6 on the season and has won a team-best 12 consecutive matches. It marks the 50th individual conference title by a Stanford wrestler all-time.

The Cardinal showed yet again why it is the top-ranked team in the country, using a second 11-under team round to win the Juli Inkster Invitational, with Paula Martin Sampedro coming from three strokes back to tie for the individual championship.

Men's Tennis starts ACC play out strong

     

No. 9 Stanford opened its four-match homestand with a 4-0 shutout of No. 29 Miami on Friday night at the Taube Pavilion at Arrillaga Tennis Center.

Stanford (9-4, 1-2 ACC) snapped its two-match losing skid by securing its first ACC win in school history.

The Cardinal looked sharp in both singles and doubles, remaining unbeaten on The Farm while playing under the lights for the first time.

 

No. 9 Stanford men’s tennis capped a weekend sweep in ACC play with a 4-0 win over No. 25 Florida State. Stanford improves to 10-4 this season and 2-2 in the ACC.

Stanford earned the advantage in the contest after rallying from early deficits in doubles, taking a 1-0 lead in the match. Max Basing and Kyle Kang secured a 6-4 win on court two, while Nico Godsick and Henry von der Schulenburg picked up a victory in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (1).

Shutout Secures Series Win at No. 4 North Carolina

       

Sophomore Joey Volchko was masterful on Sunday, combining with relievers Aidan Keenan and Toran O’Harran to post a 7-0 shutout victory at No. 4 North Carolina (14-2, 1-2 ACC) to secure a road series win in Stanford’s (12-3, 2-1 ACC) inaugural ACC series.

Volchko worked the first 5 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six to earn the victory and move to 2-0 on the season.

Card start 2-0 in ACC play at home

       

Stanford’s top three were straight-set winners and the No. 32 Cardinal opened up ACC action with a 4-1 victory over visiting No. 56 Syracuse on Friday afternoon.

Stanford’s No. 27 pair of Valerie Glozman and Connie Ma secured the doubles point on the top court with a 6-4 win over No. 55 Miyuka Kimoto and Nella Knezkova. Glozman and Ma have won three straight and moved to 4-2 against nationally-ranked opponents this season.

No. 32 Stanford ran its winning streak to five with a 5-2 victory over Boston College on Saturday afternoon.

Now 2-0 to start its inaugural season in the ACC, the Cardinal has won 120 of its last 127 matches on The Farm. Stanford won doubles with wins at No. 1 from Valerie Glozman and Connie Ma and No. 2 from Caroline Driscoll and Xu.

Softball picks up first ACC series sweep

       

The No. 19 Cardinal opened the home ACC slate with a 4-3 win over Syracuse tonight, moving to 15-3 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. Stanford struck for four runs in the bottom of the second, thanks to RBI triples from Joie Economides and Taryn Kern in the inning.

The No. 19 Cardinal moved to 16-3 on the season today, topping Syracuse 5-1. Alyssa Houston and Kylie Chung struck out eight while allowing just two hits, clinching a second series win to open ACC play with a 4-2 conference record. The win also extended the Cardinal’s perfect start to the year at home, with the team improving to 11-0 at Stanford Stadium.

No. 19 Stanford picked up the program’s first ACC series sweep today, with Jade Berry’s five RBI and two home runs powering a 9-0 win over Syracuse in six innings. The Cardinal moves to 17-3 on the season and 5-1 in ACC play, including a perfect 12-0 start at home.

No. 1 Stanford received hat tricks from three different players, highlighting an 18-12 victory over No. 10 Arizona State to open MPSF play.

Serena BrowneJenna Flynn and Jewel Roemer each recorded a hat trick for Stanford (13-0, 1-0 MPSF), which remained unbeaten and secured its first true road win of the season.

No. 5 Cardinal Tops Oregon

    

Stanford opened its time at the MPSF Midseason Rumble with its seventh consecutive 5-0 sweep, this time of conference foe Oregon. Sophomores Chloe Hoffman and Clara Stowell captured the first point of the dual with a 21-14, 21-12 victory on court four, while freshman Charlotta Bell and senior Taylor Wilson pushed the score to 2-0 with a 21-18, 21-17 win on court two.

Junior Kelly Belardi and freshman Avery Jackson won the match with a 21-11, 21-13 decision on court three. Sophomores Brooke Rockwell and Ruby Sorra put the score at a 4-0 advantage for the Cardinal with a 21-14, 21-12 decisive win on court one, and junior Daria Gusarova and fifth-year Emmy Sharp secured the sweep with a 21-8, 26-24 victory on court five.

 No. 2 Stanford hosted some of the world's best in front of a packed Burnham Pavilion on Saturday night, defeating No. 10 California, 325.100-313.300, in the collegiate portion of the Stanford International Collegiate. 

The Cardinal finished second overall in the meet, coming in behind Team USA's score of 332.750. Switzerland came in third in the event with a 315.400, followed by Finland (311.300) and International All-Stars (296.850).

Stanford sailing competed in its first two regattas on the road this spring, topping the field at the Bob Bavier Open Team Race along with a fourth-place finish at the SMC Open Team Race. The win in the Charleston Harbor gives Stanford its fourth win of the spring season.

The Bob Bavier Open Team Race saw Stanford win 18 of 21 races to earn the weekend victory, finishing two wins ahead of runner-up Charleston and four wins ahead of Roger Williams. The Cardinal went undefeated in the final round with a 3-0 record, and earned four 1-2-3 sweeps among its 18 race wins.
