STANFORD, Calif. – Caroline Driscoll clinched for the Cardinal and No. 34 Stanford beat No. 46 UC Santa Barbara 5-2 at Taube Pavilion on Friday afternoon.
Stanford (7-2) took care of business in doubles with Driscoll and Valencia Xu winning 6-2 at No. 2 before Chidimma Okpara and Morgan Shaffer secured the point for the Cardinal with a 6-4 victory at No. 3.
The Cardinal got a quick point in singles from Connie Ma’s 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 and went up 3-0 when Okpara won her match 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5.
The Gauchos pulled two back with wins from Lily Pradkin at No. 6 and Amelia Honer at No. 1, but it was Driscoll who slammed the door shut.
The midyear transfer dropped her first set to Ali Benedetto at No. 4, 6-4, but dominated the rest of the way, winning the second 6-0 and the third 6-1 to send Stanford to victory. Driscoll is a perfect 6-0 this season, including a couple of three-set wins.
Xu tacked on another point for the Cardinal, winning her 10-point tiebreak 10-7 to move to 6-1 during the dual season.
Stanford has now won 118 of its last 125 matches on The Farm.
