STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford’s top three were straight-set winners and the No. 32 Cardinal opened up ACC action with a 4-1 victory over visiting No. 56 Syracuse on Friday afternoon.
Stanford’s No. 27 pair of Valerie Glozman and Connie Ma secured the doubles point on the top court with a 6-4 win over No. 55 Miyuka Kimoto and Nella Knezkova. Glozman and Ma have won three straight and moved to 4-2 against nationally-ranked opponents this season. Chidimma Okpara and Morgan Shaffer were first to finish on court 3, grabbing their first ranked win with a 6-1 result over No. 74 Serafima Shastova and Monika Wojcik.
Glozman was first to finish at No. 2 singles, a 6-1 6-1 winner of Knezkova, in her second time playing on court 2. The freshman is 21-0 against unranked opponents in her debut season.
Ma, playing at No.1 for the second time, beat No. 90 Miyuka Kimoto 6-1, 6-2 to run her record to a perfect 7-0 this spring.
Xu clinched it for the Cardinal (8-2, 1-0) for the first time this year with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3. She’s won four straight and is 5-0 at No. 3 singles this season.
Stanford continues its six-match homestand when it hosts Boston College tomorrow at noon.
