SAN DIEGO, Calif.-- Eliza Richartz and Alysha de Souza won their final three races and seven of 11 overall to lead Stanford to the women's Pacific Coast Conference Fall Conference Championship. It was the third-straight year the Cardinal women have won the conference championship.
Richartz and de Souza, never finished lower than third, finishing with a division-best 17 points, while the “A” squad of Hannah Burroughs and Megan Grove tallied 44 points, giving the Cardinal a 10-point advantage over second place USC 61-to-71.
Over the last combined four races, and eight overall, the Cardinal never finished lower than third to keep their first day lead intact.
The freshman Richartz has now won every regatta on the West Coast this fall, as the women have also remained undefeated on the West Coast in 2009.
“The ladies battled the last two days in light air and tough course,” said second-year head coach John Vandemoer, whose coed team finished second in a tiebreaker at the conference championships last week. “They did a great job of keeping their heads and staying consistent.”
The Cardinal are next in action after the New Year's when they travel to Long Beach for the annual Rose Bowl Regatta, hosted by USC on January 2 and 3.
