LOS ANGELES—Stanford Sailing is in fifth place, just four points out of third after the first of two days of sailing at the USC Rose Bowl Regatta on Saturday at the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club.
In the first sailing event of the New Year’s, the “B” Division piloted by Peter Stemler and Alex Dunlap, never finished lower than fifth,to finish with 14 points. They began the day with a fourth place finish, and followed that up with a third, second and fifth place showing.
The “A” Division of Cole Hatton and Rebecca King, following a 15th place showing in the first race, quickly made up ground, placing seventh, eighth and then fifth. The “A” Division squad finished with 35 points over the first four of 12 races.
The two squads have a combined score of 49 points, three points behind fourth place Miami and four points behind third place and host USC. Georgetown leads the field, followed by the College of Charleston.
The final eight races sail on Sunday.
