STANFORD, Calif. – Two-time Olympian and bronze medalist Kawika Shoji makes his return to The Farm on Saturday for the men's volleyball alumni match at 4 p.m. in Maples Pavilion.
A 2010 national champion for the Cardinal, Shoji announced his retirement from volleyball in September. He spent 12 years with the U.S. National Team and played professionally overseas. He won a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and also represented the Red, White and Blue in Tokyo (2021). A three-time All-American, he was the AVCA National Player of the Year and the co-NCAA Tournament MVP for Stanford in 2010.
Shoji will be in action on Saturday along with Cardinal All-Americans Evan Barry ('12) and Conrad Kaminski ('16). Barry was also a member of the 2010 national title team and earned second team All-America honors in 2012, while Kaminski was a national runner-up in 2014 and a first team All-American in 2016.
Alums Wendell Birkhofer and John McColl will also be in attendance on Saturday. Birkhofer funded the endowment for John Kosty's position, The Birkhofer Family Men's Volleyball Head Coach, while McColl helped fund The Kawika and Erik Shoji Associate Head Coach position held by Ken Shibuya.
Admission to Saturday's alumni match is free.
