Young Coed Team Eighth At Charleston Intersectional

Charleston, S.C. - In the second week of competition for the spring season the Stanford Sailing Team sent teams to the Charleston Coed Spring Regatta hosted by the College of Charleston in South Carolina and the North Points 3 & 4 at California Maritime Academy in Vallejo, CA.

Traveling to the top event for the weekend in Charleston for the Cardinal was a young team of three freshmen and one sophomore. In A division, Nick Dugdale '12 and Hayley Tobin '11 competed against a deep field and finished 10th of the 18 teams in attendance. In B division, Oliver Riihiluoma '12 skippered with Ariane Fisher '12 crewing in her first out-of-conference event. The pair finished 7th in their division. Overall, the team of underclassmen performed well in the wide range of conditions seen over the weekend. Having gained more experience in breeze from 5 knots on Saturday and all the way up to 25 knots on Sunday, all the sailors will be able to build on their results. Overall, the team finished 8th in the event.

Nearer to home, Stanford sent a coed and women's team to the North Points 3-4 on Saturday, February 21. Competing for the coed team in both events was Ben Pedrick '11 with Katie Jewett '11 in A division and Cam Bell '09 with Caitlin Hicks '11 in B division. The coed team placed 3rd in both distinct events, finishing close behind the top teams of both CMA and Cal. The women's team of Hannah Burroughs '11 with Catherine Cu '09 in A division and Megan Grove '10 with Laura Garvey '12 in B division
