STANFORD, Calif.- Picking up its fifth win over a top-10 opponent this year, No. 2 Stanford rolled to a 5-2 victory over No. 6 California on Saturday afternoon at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Remaining unbeaten on the season, Stanford (13-0, 2-0 Pac-10) used its superior lineup depth to offset losses at the top two spots of its lineup.

California (10-2, 2-0 Pac-10) saw its five-game winning streak come to an end.

Saturday's contest does not factor into the conference standings, as the Apr. 16 rematch in Berkeley is the designated Pac-10 counting match. That being said, Saturday's match was still a significant one for both squads.

Similar to when Stanford put away then-No. 4 UCLA by a 5-2 score in a non-counting Pac-10 match back on Feb. 5, Stanford has now sent a message to its next closest Pac-10 contenders.

Also, Stanford extended its NCAA-record home winning streak to an unthinkable 173 consecutive matches (141 regular season, 32 NCAA Tournament)- a streak that now spans 12 seasons and is recognized as the longest active home winning streak among all sports in Division I athletics. The Cardinal has not lost at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium since a 5-4 setback against No. 4 California back on Feb. 27, 1999.

The Cardinal grabbed a 1-0 lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. After the all-rookie pairing of Kristie Ahn and Nicole Gibbs downed Tayler Davis and Annie Goransson 8-4 on court two, Stanford's No. 3 duo of Carolyn McVeigh and Stacey Tan clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 win.

Singles play opened with three straight Stanford victories, securing the match. Gibbs cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph on court three before McVeigh stormed past Alice Duranteau 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot.

Ahn's 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 4 position clinched the contest for Stanford, which returns to the court on Monday, Mar. 21, against Utah.
