FOSTER CITY, Calif. - Stanford men's rowing's Frosh/Novice boat competed Sunday at the Head of the Lagoon in Foster City. The Frosh 8 came together well under the coaching of Matt Wheeler and David Evans, defeating the Varsity eights from Sacramento State, UC Davis and Santa Clara in the Open 8 division.
"The Frosh Eight rowed with intensity today over the 5K course," said Stanford men's rowing head coach Craig Amerkhanian. "The first quarter of university life is taxing. I am very proud of their ability to organize academics and athletics. These student-athletes have formed a strong bond that began on Half Dome and continues to grow into a dynamic team as they work hard daily. It is very gratifying to meet parents and friends who support and uphold these young people and celebrate the team's success."
The Frosh/Novice Eight finished the course in 17 minutes flat, 23 seconds ahead of Sacramento State's varsity eight. UC Davis came in 1:28 behind while Santa Clara was 1:33 back of the Cardinal's pace.
