Ipsen Second in 3-Meter to Secure Another World Cup Spot

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Stanford freshman Kristian Ipsensecured another spot at the World Cup in February, finishing second in the 3-meter on Monday at the Winter National Championships following a combined score of 1516.55. Ipsen lost the gold medal by .20 points as Chris Colwill secured the other spot with a mark of 1516.75.

Stanford graduate Dwight Dumaisfinished in ninth place with a combined score of 1271.85.

Ipsen secured at least 85 points in each of his final five dives, posting 9.5's on his final dive, a reverse 1 ½ somersault and twist for 91.80 points.

Both Ipsen and Dumais made the finals with second and eighth place showings in the morning. Ipsen scored a mark of 994.45, one point ahead of Drew Livingston and 16 points behind Colwill (1010.35). Dumais secured the final spot in the finals with a score of 855.35. All divers carried over scores from the quarterfinals, with Ipsen carrrying a mark of 493.00 and Dumais posting a tally of 415.65 yestrday.

Ipsen had already secured a spot in the 3-meter synchro with a win earlier at the Winter Nationals.
