Academic All-America

STANFORD, Calif. – Heisman Trophy candidate Christian McCaffrey has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Football team, it was announced Thursday. Selections were made by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A National Football Foundation High School National Scholar-Athlete finalist in 2013, McCaffrey has yet to declare a major. Last week, he was picked to the Pac-12 All-Academic second team.

McCaffrey’s father, Ed, was an Academic All-America first team choice with the Cardinal in 1990.

The sophomore from Castle Rock, Colorado, has produced a record-breaking season for the seventh-ranked Cardinal (10-2). McCaffrey leads the nation in all-purpose yards with a Pac-12 Conference record 3,035.

Arguably the most versatile player in college football, he has rushed for 1,640 yards and seven touchdowns, caught a team-high 37 passes for 435 yards and three scores, returned 31 kickoffs for 922 yards, including a 98-yard touchdown against Cal, returned 12 punts for 38 yards, and has thrown a 28-yard touchdown pass.

On Tuesday, McCaffrey was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year. He is a finalist for several national awards.
